Kliff Kingsbury has agreed to become USC's offensive coordinator, multiple outlets reported Tuesday. Colin Cowherd first reported the news which was quickly confirmed by Fox Sports, ESPN and the NFL Network.
Securing Kingsbury's services is a significant win for Clay Helton, who is re-working his staff after a 5-7 season in 2018. Word out of Los Angeles said Kingsbury-to-USC was a done deal last week; however, the Kingsbury camp quickly refuted that given the NFL interest -- possibly including interest as a possible head coach -- in the former Texas Tech head coach.
That led to a reported ultimatum from USC, and Kingsbury has reportedly decided to take the bird in hand.
Kingsbury is a golden child of the Air Raid offense after playing within the scheme under Mike Leach at Texas Tech and later coaching it at his alma mater. He has racked up a number of NFL proteges in his short time as a coach, a list that includes Johnny Manziel, Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield and Davis Webb. Texas Tech also has more wide receivers on NFL rosters than any other school.
At USC, he'll be tasked with getting the most out of JT Daniels, who threw for 2,672 yards and 14 touchdowns as a true freshman.
