As NFL minicamps wind down this week, several NFL assistant coaches will be making their way to New York to attend an NFL Coaching Clinic the league has announced. We first saw report of this via Alex Marvez of Sporting News.
Marvez adds that each NFL team can send two assistants with between one and three years of NFL experience to attend the clinic hosted at the New York Jets headquarters.
The focus of this year's clinic is on coaching four position groups: quarterbacks, offensive line, defensive line & linebackers.
During the three-day event, a panel of speakers composed of retired or inactive coaches renowned for their coaching success and their reputation as teachers will instruct and demonstrate techniques, discuss effective communication, and share perspectives on best practices. There will also be presentations, panel discussions, breakout sessions and on-the-field demonstrations.
Bill Polian told Marvez, "There was a dearth of places where young assistant coaches who had come up through the computer ranks could learn on-field technique and therefore improve their careers and the game". Read more here about what Bill Polian says about the clinic via Sporting News.
The list of executives and coaches participating as faculty include Troy Vincent, Bill Polian, Matt Birk, Ted Cottrell, Kevin Gilbride, Al Groh, Ray Hamilton, Jim McNally, Howard Mudd, Jimmy Raye, Sr., Norv Turner, and Dave Wannstedt (via NFL Communications).
