Sources confirmed to FootballScoop that Arizona State OC Mike Norvell will be the next head coach at Memphis. SI has reported the same.
Norvell, who also carries the title of Deputy Head Coach and quarterbacks coach on Todd Graham's staff, is a bright young coach who has been a member of Graham's staff since their days at Tulsa, where he coached the receivers. When Graham left for Pitt, Norvell joined as offensive coordinator / wide receivers coach, and carried that title to Arizona State, while also adding the deputy head coach title. Memphis is getting a young (Norvell is 34) Texas raised guy, who played his college ball not too far away at Central Arkansas.
Around the coaching profession, Norvell is highly regarded as one of the top offensive minds in college football, and he's an excellent recruiter, so while he may not have head coaching experience, rest assured that Memphis is getting a top notch guy to lead the program into the future.
