Former South Carolina defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward has landed in the same job at Chattanooga, the program has announced.
“I have known Coach Ward for a long time and he is an outstanding addition to our program,” Mocs head coach Rusty Wright said in a statement. “He was on the staff when I played here and has coached at the highest levels throughout his career. He wants to be here and we are very fortunate to have him.”
After his 7-year run managing Steve Spurrier's defense in Columbia, Ward spent a season as the defensive coordinator at Fresno State and two as the defensive backs coach and assistant head coach at Louisville.
Ward has also coached defensive backs at Virginia Tech and Arkansas and with the Oakland Raiders.
Chattanooga went 6-5 in 2018; the Mocs finished 43rd nationally in total defense, 49th in rushing defense, 37th in pass efficiency defense and 14th in scoring defense, permitting 21 points per game.
