Canadian Football League to eliminate in-season full contact practices (CFL)

The Canadian Football League will announce today the elimination of in-season full contact practices effective immediately, according to Dave Naylor of TSN in Canada.

Presently, teams are allowed to conduct full contact practice 17 times during the season, plus training camp. Full contact practices in training camp will still be permitted.

Additionally, the CFL will stretch forthcoming seasons from 20 weeks to 21, giving teams shorter turnarounds through an extra bye week. Future seasons will now play 18 games with three weeks off instead of two.

The CFL will become the first professional football league to ban in-season full contact practices. The Ivy League banned in-season full contact practices in 2016.
