Virginia pursuing FCS coordinator for defensive staff position (Virginia Football Coaching Staff)

West Georgia defensive coordinator Mike Adams is being targeted for the Virginia linebackers job, according to a report Monday from 247Sports.

Adams, also set to coach linebackers for the Wolves, joined West Georgia's staff in December. He spent the past five seasons as the pass game coordinator and safeties coach at Mercer.

Adams and Cavs head coach Tony Elliott coached together at South Carolina State from 2006-07. Elliott left for Furman and eventually Clemson, while Adams remained SC State's defensive coordinator through 2014. He helped the Bulldogs win in the MEAC and reach the FCS playoffs four times in his nine seasons on staff.

Adams spent 2014-16 at South Alabama and Charleston Southern from 2016-18.

The move would fill the vacancy created by former UVA linebackers coach Clint Sintim taking the outside linebackers job at Illinois.
