Across college football programs have come together to release video messages in the wake of the death of George Floyd and the protests that have since taken place across America as a part of the ongoing #BlackLivesMatter movement. So many of them are really well done, and send a powerful message about racial inequality.
Today, I came across the video that Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning and some players put together, and it gave me chills a number of times.
In the video, various black players hold up a sign saying "I hear you..." followed by a moment when they may hear the crowd erupt in celebration. After a handful of players share the "I hear you..." message, the focus shifts to them holding signs that say some form of "...but do you hear me?"
"We hear you before the game. We hear you during the game. We hear you after the game. Now we need you to speak up. Do not let our generation, and the younger generation after us fall into the same mistakes that we've fallen into," one player shared.
Then UGA defensive coordinator Dan Lanning closes out the video by encouraging everyone to educate those in your family and community that social injustice is very real.
"We love our players, and we love the people associated with our program. Please spread the love. It's time for us to unite. It's time for us to make a change."
