There are only 134 head coaching opportunities in major college football this fall, so when you get your opportunity, you've got to make the most of it.
Nate Dreiling, who was elevated to the interim head coach spot following the recent dismissal of Blake Anderson, has reportedly started to adjust the staff to maximize his opportunity this fall to lead the program and make the best impression possible during his full-season interview for the head coaching job.
Pete Thamel shares that one of the more significant changes will take place at offensive play caller.
Heading into the 2023 season, Blake Anderson took on a more active role in the offensive game planning and play calling process alongside co-offensive coordinator Kyle Cefalo, who also worked with the team's receivers. Anderson coached the quarterbacks last fall.
With Anderson out, Cefalo will step into the play calling role, Thamel shares. He will continue to work with the receivers as well, as he did last year.
A few additional coaches will have new duties as well, with two new co-coordinator titles on tap, Thamel adds.
Hayden Kingston will now coach the quarterbacks after serving as an analyst previously, and inside linebackers coach Bobby McMillen will serve as co-defensive coordinator while offensive line coach Cooper Bassett will add the co-coordinator title on offense.
Also, Thamel adds that Rachel McPhillips has been named the program's chief of staff.
