Bill Belichick has won six Super Bowls as a head coach -- plus two more as a defensive coordinator. His nine total Super Bowl appearances are the most in league history, and his 31 playoff wins are more than all but four NFL franchises. He was named the head coach of two NFL All-Decade Teams and the NFL's All 100 Team.
All of that acknowledged, there's an ocean of minor statistics that reinforce the man's greatness, and this one may be my favorite.
Belichick led his Patriots to a 23-17 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night, improving his record to 7-6 as a touchdown underdog, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.
That's not 7-6 against the spread as a touchdown underdog. That's 7-6 straight up. Even on the rare occasion where Vegas turns wildly against the Patriots, Belichick is still more likely than not to win.
What's more impressive? That Bill Belichick's winning percentage is 35 percent higher than the league average in that situation? Or that he's been a touchdown 'dog 13 times in 370 games -- once every 28 outings? Trick question. It's both.
