What we're hearing: Lay of the land as several universities consider coaching changes and new hires. 

Dallas Cowboys: Appearing on 105.3 The Fan, Jerry Jones says he's not ruling out a contract extension for head coach Mike McCarthy, noting "I don't think that's crazy at all. This is a Super Bowl-winning coach. Mike McCarthy has been there and done that. He has great ideas. We got a lot of football left." The Cowboys are 4-7 and just snapped a five-game losing streak with their win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Southern Illinois (FCS): An FCS graduate assistant, who had been a career backup, got a chance to suit up at quarterback and set school record in 62-0 win.

Houston: Ranking dead last in scoring offense, Willie Fritz and Houston have decided to make a coordinator change.

Kansas Wesleyan (NAIA): The Coyotes have tabbed an assistant from the defending national champs as their new head coach.

Victor Valley (JC - CA): Victor Valley College currently has 1 assistant coaching position available. LOOKING FOR THE BEST CANDIDATES regardless of position. Looking for Coaching experience but not required. This can be a great job for those looking to transition from playing to coaching. Duties will include coaching your own position group, conducting meetings, assisting with special teams, various recruiting responsibilities, academic monitoring, and any other duties assigned by the Head Coach or respective coordinator. Based on the candidate's education and experience the salary will range from $8,000-$16,000 for the position. No housing or benefits. A degree in kinesiology or physical education MAY allow the possibility to adjunct additional courses. Review of candidates will begin immediately. Northern Iowa (FCS): Following the retirement of longtime head coach Mark Farley, The Gazette shares six candidates that have either had discussions and/or formal interviews for the opening. Those coaches include UNI assistant head coach / defensive line coach Bryce Paup, Grand View (NAIA - IA) head coach Joe Woodley, Army co-offensive coordinator / offensive line coach Matt Drinkall, South Carolina receivers coach Mike Furrey, Wyoming offensive coordinator Jay Johnson and Boise State assistant head coach / defensive coordinator Erik Chinander.
