The “6-Up” and “7-Up” Equalizer: How VMI Packages its Man Pressure System - The life of a “Keydet” at VMI is often littered with more professional responsibilities other than playing football. So, when head coach Danny Rocco hired Rich Yahner as the DC, he challenged him to create a pressure package that made it simple for his players yet looked confusing for his opponents. The Southern Conference is a man-protection league, so Coach Yahner devised a “6-Up” and “7-Up” pressure presentation with zero catch man coverage behind it. It wreaked havoc on five-man and six-man protections, where it was more than 80% efficient. The scheme was a perfect fit for his personnel, who were better suited to attack downhill rather than bend and twist at the first level to get home. As Coach Yahner told X&O Labs, “it eliminated the vertical game and made offenses play more horizontally, So, whether you’re an Even, Stack, or Okie outfit, this package can easily be adapted into your system and force offenses out of the vertical pass game. Centre College (D-III - KY): Centre College, a highly selective academic Division 3 institution located in Central Kentucky – which recently completed a $70 million athletic facility upgrade – is looking for an entry level football coach, responsible for the RBs with their own recruiting area. Ottawa (NAIA - KS): Ottawa University, located in Kansas and a member of the NAIA, is actively seeking a full-time assistant football coach to join our team starting July 1st. The role may entail serving as a special teams coordinator, and we are committed to finding the ideal candidate to complement our staff. The selected coach will be tasked with overseeing all aspects of the football program as designated by the Head Football Coach. It's worth noting that the last six full-time assistants have progressed to coaching roles at the Division 1, Division 2, or NAIA levels, including Head Coaches, Coordinators, or assistant positions. William & Mary (FCS - VA): William & Mary is looking for a VOLUNTEER offensive quality control (QC) coach. The QC position will be working directly with the offensive coordinator assisting with the weekly gameplan, recruiting, running drills during practice, film breakdown, and other duties. This is strictly a VOLUNTEER position. No stipend, meal plan, or housing is included. In the past, our quality control coaches have moved on to graduate assistant (GA), other QC roles, or been promoted to full time coaches on the staff at W&M. This is an excellent way to get experience with a variety of responsibilities. This is a startup program with a Pre-Varsity schedule in ‘24 and a full Varsity schedule in ‘25. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and must be admitted into graduate school. Job duties include but are not limited to; coaching a position, running meetings for your position group, recruiting your own area, practice/game preparation, film breakdown, data entry, and other duties assigned by the head coach. The position will cover full graduate tuition, meal plan, housing, and a stipend.
