Best Practices: Gallop vs. Tight Drive Footwork in Duo Runs: The distinction between Duo and other gap scheme runs is that the point linebacker is typically play side- and not the backside of the run action. So, linemen don’t necessarily have time to get to the point. This is why Bryant University (RI) run game coordinator Steven Ciocci teaches more vertical combinations when installing the concept and will differentiate between gallop and tight drive footwork. The technique depends completely on whether his down lineman is on or off his body. In this exclusive clinic report with X&O Labs, Coach Ciocci explains how he teaches each technique and the drill work he uses to teach it. Read more.
