Texas Tech awards staff with new multi-year deals (joey mcguire)

Joey McGuire and his staff had an impressive debut season in Lubbock, going 8-5 with a win in the Texas Bowl and wins over both Texas and Oklahoma for the first time in program history to their credit

Now, they're being awarded for it.

In a move rarely seen in college football, the program announced today contract extensions for the all ten members of their on-field staff.

Defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter and offensive coordinator Zach Kittley both agreed to new three-year deals.

DeRutyer new agreement is worth $3.15 million over his three seasons, while Kittley got a raise to $2.55 million. Kittley previously made $2.2 million on his initial three-year deal, while DeRuyter previously made $2.7 million on his three-year deal.

CJ Ah You (OLBs), Josh Bookbinder (ILBs), Josh Cochran (TEs), Zarnell Fitch (DL), and Stephen Hamby (OL) all signed either new two-year deals or received a one-year extension. Kenny Perry (STC / RBs) and Marcel Yates (defensive pass game coordinator) both received one-year extensions, pushing their contracts to three-year agreements.

Justin Johnson, who recently joined the staff as assistant head coach / offensive passing game coordinator, is operating with a three-year as well.

On top of those on-the-field coaches, Texas Tech has inked head strength coach Lance Barilow and associate athletics director for football administration Antonio Huffman to new two-year agreements as well.

Also, Joey McGuire got an increase to his salary pool for assistant coaches bumped up to $7.5 million, which marks the deepest salary pool in the history of Texas Tech football. That marks an increase of nearly $800k from where it sat previously.
