Report: Texas A&M working to hire Mark Stoops (Texas A&M Football)

Texas A&M is moving to hire Mark Stoops as its next head coach, according to a report Saturday night from Mark Passwaters of Texas A&M's Rivals site.

Stoops was asked about his name being linked to the Aggies' opening following Kentucky's win over No. 10 Louisville earlier today, but chose to sidestep the question

Ironically, Stoops once worked for his likely future predecessor Jimbo Fisher; Stoops was Jimbo's first defensive coordinator at Florida State from 2010-12.

His success there earned Stoops the Kentucky job, where he built Kentucky into a consistent winner. Kentucky reached bowl games in eight straight seasons, including this one.

Stoops has won 10 games and finished in the AP top 20 twice in his 11 seasons, but has hit his head on a low ceiling in the SEC East. At Texas A&M, Stoops would finally have the resources to compete with Georgia, Florida and Tennessee, not to mention Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas.

But with those resources would come expectations to take the Aggies to the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoff.
