Matt Lubick, a Bozeman, Montana, native who's climbed his way throughout the coaching ranks and even earned distinction in 2012 as FootballScoop's Wide Receivers Coach of the Year, has inspired many inside and outside college football with his head-on battle against Leukemia.
Lubick has candidly addressed the diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia, discovered earlier this fall in an Denver-area hospital as Lubick worked remotely in his role as an senior offensive analyst for Lance Leipold's Kansas Jayhawks program.
Lubick has been an offensive coordinator or co-coordinator at storied Power 5 institutions Nebraska, Oregon and Washington; he's long been regarded as an extremely astute offensive mind.
And if his health improves, sources tell FootballScoop that new Nevada head coach Jeff Choate is eyeing Lubick to run the Wolf Pack offense.
Lubick and Choate share an alma mater: Montana Western, where as Lubick was beginning his career as a defensive back Choate was wrapping up his there as a linebacker. The two were teammates in 1991.
Choate then also coached the Montana Western linebackers in 1992-93, Lubick's second and third years in the program.
Lubick has SEC experience at Ole Miss, and he was David Cutcliffe's wide receivers coach at Duke when he was honored as FootballScoop's top wide receivers coach in 2012.
No deal is done for Lubick to join Choate's staff, and Lubick's health in battling Leukemia is top priority.. But the well-regarded offensive mind has a path back to play-calling, if his health allows it.
