Oregon is expected to hire Marcel Yates as its safeties coach, sources told FootballScoop on Thursday.
Yates previously coordinated defenses for Boise State and Arizona and served as a co-defensive coordinator at Texas A&M.
He spent the 2020 campaign as the secondary coach at Cal, working alongside new Ducks defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter both in Berkeley.
Yates replaces Keith Heyward, who left Oregon last mont to coach outside linebackers at Cal, of all places.
A Los Angeles native, Yates has spent all but two years of his adult life in Pac-12 country. He played at Boise State and began coaching at Montana State before returning to Boise in 2003 as cornerbacks coach, eventually rising to defensive pass game coordinator.
Oregon's pass defense ranked third in the Pac-12 en route to the most unconventional of conference titles. Mario Crisotbal's Ducks defeated USC in the league title game after finishing second to Washington in the North Division.
