Sad news to share this afternoon as universally respected defensive line coach Brad Lawing has passed away.
The news was shared on social media by Lawing's brother-in-law, Wayne Parris earlier today.
Lawing was 65.
The former Gamecocks defensive line coach coached, and recruited, some of the program's biggest stars including Jadeveon Clowney.
He spent from 1989-98 with the program before coming back from 2006-12.
Lawing coached with Shawn Elliott at Georgia State in 2019 before having to step away to focus on his health.
He also recently coached at Florida and Florida State, among other stops earlier in his career.
Lawing's impact will continue to live on and be felt with the South Carolina defensive line unit, as new Gamecocks defensive line coach Travian Robertson has previously credited much of his development to his former mentor via On3.
Lawing helped to recruit, and sign Robertson as a player and the two developed a unique relationship over the years.
Please join us in praying for the family of Lawing, and all those impacted by his passing.
Our hearts are broken hearing this terrible news.
