According to a report today, former Maryland head coach Matt Canada is expected to land an offensive coordinator role.
Ian Rapoport shares that Canada, who has spent last season as the Steelers quarterbacks coach, is expected to be promoted to the offensive coordinator role that opened up with the dismissal of Randy Fitchner.
Canada, known for his approach using multiple shifts and motions presnap, was reportedly on the short list of the Dolphins for their open coordinator position as well.
In just the past decade, Canada has held offensive coordinator title at Northern Illinois, NC State, Pitt, LSU and Maryland. His time with the Terps coincided with the dismissal of head coach DJ Durkin, following the death of Jordan McNair during a workout. Canada took over as the interim head coach for 12 games of the 2018 season, going 5-7 overall.
In 2016, while at Pitt, Canada was one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, and a few years later Pat Narduzzi used Canada leaving for LSU as an example on why coaches need to have patience in the profession.
He spent the 2019 season out of coaching and returned to the sidelines as the Steelers quarterbacks coach this past fall.
