Nebraska secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator Evan Cooper has resigned, the program announced Friday. The school's statement listed the reason for Cooper's departure as "personal reasons."
Cooper was among Matt Rhule's longest-running lieutenants, working under him nearly continuously since Rhule got the Temple head coaching job in 2013.
Then, Cooper was a GA for the Owls, then moved to director of external operations in 2014. After a year at Miami, Cooper returned in 2015 as director of player personnel, and followed Rule to Baylor in 2017 under the same role. He moved on the field in 2018, and helped Baylor reach the Big 12 Championship and the Sugar Bowl in 2019.
Cooper was the cornerbacks coach and director of player evaluation for Rhule's Carolina Panthers from 2020-22, then came aboard as the architect behind Nebraska's pass defense in 2023.
Nebraska finished 14th nationally in pass efficiency defense in 2023.
The Cornhuskers open Matt Rhule's second season Aug. 31 against UTEP.
