For coaches that have a family, or those just starting off with dreams of starting a family, let's cut right to the chase.
As people who dedicate so much of their lives to the game, are there better times of the year than others than others to have kids?
We've all had the thought cross our mind about when we would be the best time in the calendar to welcome a kid into our lives, but we also know that's not how it works. If you're lucky enough to already be a parent, you understand that when your kids are born, the world stops spinning ever so briefly, and you and your significant other are able to soak in the moment, basking in the newfound glow of parenthood and all that comes with it. But you can only stop for so long. Time waits for no man, after all.
But, what if there was a way to time the birth of your children perfectly with the demands of being a college coach juggling the demands of a season, the recruiting calendar and everything else that comes along with the job?
Well, one major college head coach has apparently cracked that code.
According to Mike Casazza (& Steven Godfrey, who did some leg work to verify some birthdates), Brooke and Neal Brown had three kids with near perfect timing for a head college football coach.
Brown shared a few tweets the last few days dated February 15th, 16th, and 18th wishing his two daughters (Adalyn and Anslee) and his son (Dax) Happy Birthdays.
Think of the timing there. Adalyn was born just over a week after National Signing Day on February 15th, 13 years ago. Anslee was also born just after signing day 10 years ago, and Dax was born just a few days after NSD six years ago, according to the timing of the birthday wishes.
To recap - Brooke and Neal had all three of their kids just after, February's National Signing Day and before the start of spring practices, all spaced out a few years apart.
As Godfrey points out, the family can have all three birthday parties in the span of a week, while the football calendar isn't operating in overdrive. Sure, the focus just shifts to the next thing on the docket. Just after that first Wednesday in February, the focus simply shifts to the next signing class, and then preparing for spring practices, but that time is far from the craziest on a college coaches calendar.
That's some next level parenting efficiency in action, along with coaching life and family goals we can all hope to aspire to someday.
A tip of the cap to Brooke and Neal. Truly remarkable timing, more than worthy of some admiration.
