Matt Patricia is close to joining the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff, head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed Thursday.
In fact, Patricia was so close to joining the staff that the team's communications staff included his name among a collection of new hires on Thursday afternoon before taking it down. Patricia's title was "senior defensive assistant," according to the now-deleted posting.

Patricia spent the past two seasons with the New England Patriots as a senior football advisor, while adding offensive line coaching duties in 2022. Adrian Klemm is now New England's offensive line coach.
Patricia was the Patriots' defensive coordinator from 2012-17 before spending 2018-20 as the Detroit Lions' head coach.
The former aeronautical engineering student has consistently hopscotched back and forth from offense to defense and back during his near three-decades in coaching. His first full-time job came as the defensive line coach at Amherst in 1999, then joined Syracuse as an offensive GA in 2001. He coached offensive linemen, linebackers and safeties before landing the defensive coordinator job in New England.
Beyond Patricia, the Eagles announced a slew of new hires on Thursday.
