North Carolina announced today that they have agreed to a one-year contract extension with Mack Brown.
Brown, who will be entering his fifth year in charge of the Tar Heels in his second stint with the program, is 30-22 since taking over the program in 2019. He enters this off season coming off a 9-5 campaign, which is their finish since his return to Chapel Hill.
"Mack has reenergized our program in so many ways โ from the team camaraderie in the locker room, to the engaged fan base in the stands, to this season's Coastal Division Championship and nine-win finish,'' Carolina Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham shared in their statement of the news.
"We know that under his leadership, our student-athletes will continue to succeed on the field and in the classroom while giving back to the community. We appreciate all he and Sally have done to help build a positive culture around Carolina Football."
The length of his deal stays at five-years and takes him through the 2027 season and he will continue to make $5 million annually.
In addition to their nine-wins, the Tar Heels also won the ACC Coastal last season and made their fourth straight bowl trip.
The 2022 recruiting class was a top-10 class, and their 2023 class ranks in the top 30 nationally, according to 247, while pulling in a transfer class that ranks just outside the top 20.
Mack, who will turn 72 in August, enters this fall with a new offensive coordinator (Phil Longo left for Wisconsin and Chip Lindsey arrived from UCF) and a new corners coach in Jason Jones after the program agreed to a mutual parting of the ways with legendary Tar Heel Dre Bly.
