Iowa's Ferentz trolls Fleck; burns all timeouts (Iowa)

Iowa grabbed the ceremonial hog Friday night in its rivalry tilt with Minnesota.

Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz left a little extra slop behind for Gophers coach P.J. Fleck.

After the Hawkeyes battered Minnesota, 35-7, in Minneapolis to retain the 'Floyd of Rosedale' bronze pig trophy, Ferentz left no doubt about the message he and his program sent in its third-straight win against Fleck's Gophers.

After the Gophers, just 1-3 this season and losers in five of their last eight, called timeout with just 19 seconds left to play in the game, Ferentz peeled off all three of the Hawkeyes' timeouts.

Minnesota avoided a shutout; Iowa delivered a message.

“Figured we'd take Floyd with us and leave the timeouts here,” Ferentz said post-game, per HawkCentral.com's Chad Leistikow.

It's Iowa's record sixth-straight win in the rivalry.

“I am proud of our football team and the players, the way they competed and the way they are growing as a football team,” Ferentz said in his postgame. “It was great for us to be able to bring Floyd back home with us, we’re thrilled about that.

“There are still some things we need to work on and get better at, but the big thing is we are still improving right now. That has been our focus all the way through it.”

Iowa lost its first two games by a combined five points against Purdue and Northwestern; the Hawkeyes have then notched consecutive victories against Michigan State and the Gophers by a combined 70 points. They travel to Penn State next Saturday.
