UNLOCK THE EDGE: How William & Mary's 'Y Lead' Innovation Transformed Their Wide Zone Attack: William & Mary's coaching staff has unveiled a game-changing addition to the wide zone run game—the “Y Lead Variation”—which helped them achieve 6.5 yards per carry and lead the nation in explosive runs. Inspired by the San Francisco 49ers' use of George Kittle and Kyle Juszczyk, this innovative blocking technique provides a solution for handling dominant defensive ends who disrupt traditional schemes. This research report from X&O Labs details three distinct blocking reads, complete with diagrams, best practices, and plenty of game film examples. Already adopted by programs like UCLA and Kansas, this technique could be the key to elevating your ground game. See the full breakdown and coaching points here.
