High school program names THIRD head coach in past 48 hours (Three Head Coaches)

The Linden-Kildare program has gotten off to a rough start for the 2024 season.

The incredible story begins with veteran head coach Jason Ferguson leading the team into the 2024 season. Ferguson was previously the head coach at DeLeon (TX), Memphis (TX) and Shelbyville (TX), where he went a combined 57-26 in those stops.

In his first two games leading the team, they lost handily in games that ended in a combined score of 89-6 to start the year 0-2.

Week one they lost 59-0 against Pewitt (TX), and the next week they dropped a 30-6 decision to Comesneil (TX).

On Monday, earlier this week, Ferguson and the school agreed to part ways and assistant coach JD Russell was appointed the interim head coach, Matt Stepp shared.

By late afternoon on Wednesday, word began to get out that Russell had stepped down, meaning that the program would be moving on to their THIRD head coach in 48 hours.

To fill the head coaching role after an incredible amount of adversity, school superintendent Rex Burks made the take on the responsibilities. He steps into the role of head coach and athletic director, at least for the week, where he will provide a much needed sense of stability for the program.

The good news is Burks does bring some prior head coaching experience to his new role, serving as the head coach at Simms Bowie (TX) for a few seasons in the late 90s and into the 2000s.

This week, Burks will lead them onto the field in action against Hughes Springs, who went 0-10 last fall, but seems to be off to a 1-1 start this season.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
