Former USC and defensive line coach Kenechi Udeze is joining Dana Holgorsen's Houston staff as an analyst, according to multiple reports on Wednesday.
Udeze spent the past two seasons as the assistant defensive line coach for the Tennessee Titans, and prior to that was the linebackers coach at Vanderbilt in 2020.
Udeze has been a member of two national championship teams. He was a consensus All-American defensive end on USC's AP national champion 2003 team, then served as a defensive analyst on LSU's 2019 squad.
A first round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2004, Udeze played four seasons in the NFL before starting his career as an assistant strength coach on Steve Sarkisian's Washington staff in 2009. He has been an assistant strength coach at Pitt and USC, an assistant D-line coach for the Seattle Seahawks, and spent 2016-18 as the defensive line coach for his alma mater.
Houston is gearing up for its first season as a member of the Big 12. The Cougars begin their campaign with two-time defending Conference USA champion UTSA at home on Sept. 2, and open Big 12 play with former Southwest Conference rival and defending national runner-up TCU on Sept. 16.
