Dick Sheridan (1941-2023) (Dick Sheridan)

Dick Sheridan, who was a successful high school coach before building two successful college football programs, has sadly passed.

He was 81.

During a head coaching career that spanned three different decades (1978-1992), Sheridan built perrennial winners at both Furman and NC State.

Following his graduation from South Carolina, he led the program at Orangeburg-Wilkinson (SC) to a remarkable 37-8-1 record with a state title in 1971.

In 1973 he made the jump to the college ranks as the quarterbacks and receivers coach at Furman, and in 1978 he was appointed the head coach of the Paladins.

He won 8 games in his first season as a head college coach, and would go on to win just shy of 70 games leading Furman through the 1985 season, when they finished 12-2 and lost in the Division I-AA championship game.

Heading into the 1986 season he took over the NC State program, and again won 8-games in his first season, leading the program to bowl game appearances in six of his seven seasons, ending his tenure with back-to-back 9-win seasons with the Wolf Pack.

He was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame as part of their 2020 class, and had just two losing seasons at the college level, which both happened in his second season at each of his respective spots.

Sheridan left college football with an overall mark of 121-52-5.

Please join us in praying for his family during this difficult time.
