David Walker steps down as Concord head coach (David Walker)

David Walker has stepped down as the head coach at Concord University, the coach announced on social media.

Concord is a Division II school in Athens, W. Va. The Mountain Lions compete in the Mountain East Conference.

No reason for Walker's departure was given. In his post, Walker expressed gratitude for the Concord community, including President Dr. Kendra Boggess and AD Kevin Garrett. (Update: Sources tell FootballScoop Walker is returning to his previous post leading a West Virginia high school. More below)

Walker went 14-8 on the job. Following a 4-6 debut, the Mountain Lions posted a 9-2 mark with a runner-up finish in the MEC. Walker's final game at Concord was a 58-56, five overtime win over UNC-Pembroke on Nov. 12.

Walker joined the program on Dec. 23, 2019, following a run of four consecutive Class AAA state championships at West Virginia's Martinsburg High School. In 19 seasons, Walker's teams played for 12 straight crowns, also pulling off a 4-peat from 2010-13. He left the school on a 56-game winning streak.
