Army loses member of staff to high school head coaching job (Army)

After helping Jeff Monken and Army win 12 games this past season, Blake Powers is leaving Army to become the head coach at his alma mater.

Powers spent the past three seasons on staff.

This past fall he coached the fullbacks, and the 2023 season he mentored the tight ends, and got his start at Army coaching their running backs in 2022.

He's now set to return to the hometown that helped raise him as the new head coach at Meade County, a high school with an enrollment of around 1,500 students.

A former Meade County star quarterback, Powers returns to lead his alma mater after going on to star at Indiana, where he was a four-year letter winner.

When his career as a Hoosier quarterback was done, he was the single-season touchdown pass record holder.

Before beginning his coaching career, Powers enlisted in the Army, where he served on active duty for 12 years, reaching the rank of Major and deployed to Afghanistan twice on two separate combat deployments, where he earned the coveted Bronze Star Medal.

A decorated military veteran, he earned a number of additional medals, and also was awarded the Officer Leadership Award as the honor graduate of his Ranger School class.

He takes over a program at Meade County rich in tradition that he's very familiar with. The football program has brought home 17 District titles, 8 Region championships, and made trips to the state finals twice with their most recent trip in 2013.
