In 2018, Oklahoma State supplemented the two video boards on the east side of its stadium with a Godzillatron in between them. The new board would measure 6,160 square feet, stretching 56 feet tall and 110 feet wide.
The third-largest of its kind in the Big 12, Oklahoma State's would feel like the largest, at least to the players on the field, because of the lack of stands on Boone Pickens Stadium's east side.
Look at this thing:
On Saturday, Oklahoma State's game presentation staff tried to turn the video board into a giant optical illusion.
The ploy was ingenious, and also outside the bounds of Big 12 sportsmanship rules. Texas head coach Tom Herman said Tuesday the conference confirmed to him Oklahoma State cannot do that moving forward. (It's not clear if this is the first time Oklahoma State has tried this move, or if this was the first time national TV cameras picked it up.)
Entertaining as it was, the bit did not work. Cameron Dicker converted the 40-yard field goal, his only field goal try of the day, in a 41-34 Texas win.
