Source: Western Illinois staff begins to take shape under Joe Davis (Eastern Illinois)

Western Illinois (FCS) decided to make a change after an 0-11 season, brining in Eastern Illinois (FCS) offensive coordinator and veteran offensive play caller Joe Davis as their new head coach.

Davis was formally announced at a presser last week, where he noted that he wasn't going to be rushed to fill out a staff, and instead was going to focus on brining in the right coaches.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Davis has two guys in place as of early this week.

Brandon Kreczmer, who coached the inside linebackers before stepping in as the interim head coach, is being retained as assistant head coach / linebackers coach, per sources.

He also spent a few seasons as the head coach at Newman Central Catholic (IL), where his teams wen 23-6 from 2019-21, winning the 2A state title in his first season leading the team..

Sources also tell FootballScoop that Cole Hoover is joining the staff from Ball State, where he worked as an offensive graduate assistant, and he will coach the Leatherneck tight ends.

Hoover was an offensive graduate assistant under Davis at Eastern Illinois, where he also lettered for four seasons on the offensive line before beginning his coaching journey.
