Video: Coach punched by player in California high school game (coach)

An ugly incident during the third quarter of a California high school blowout between Central HS and Justin Garza HS led to the game being called in third quarter of action.

The fight that started it all shows what appears to be a punt by Garza, and while the action of the play was happening forty yards downfield, two players got heated and it quickly turned physical.

A Garza player ripped off the helmet of a Central lineman and swung it, connecting with the opponent's face before the two sparred briefly. Coaches and players quickly intervened.

According to multiple reports, the incident lasted only about a minute, but that brief amount of time was enough for a coach to get struck by a different Garza player.

That video shows coaches trying to break up the scuffle, when a Garza player tries to square up with a Central player with a coach in between them. The Garza player swings and clearly connects with the coach in between the two parties.

Below are two angles of the altercations.

Officials sent both teams to their respective locker rooms after a brief meeting at midfield with coaches after cooler heads prevailed and the game was called and the official record will show Central as the contest winner after building a 40-0 lead leading up to the incident.

While it's not yet clear what disciplinary actions will be taken, Garza is set to take on Bakersfield this week, while Central is set to host East Anchorage (AK).
