Former Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin will earn nearly $267,000 as a senior advisor/analyst for Ohio State in 2023, according to documents obtained by Eleven Warriors. The figure is the highest Ohio State has ever paid an off-field coaching assistant.
Philbin, 61, joined the club last month after three seasons as the Dallas Cowboys offensive line coach and nearly 20 seasons at the NFL level. Three of those seasons were with Brian Hartline, when Philbin was the Fins' head coach and Hartline a wide receiver. Hartline is now in his first season as Ohio State's offensive coordinator.
Elsewhere, Todd Fitch received a massive raise upon his promotion from analyst to senior advisor/analyst. The former UConn, East Carolina, South Florida, Boston College, Louisiana Tech and Vanderbilt offensive coordinator was paid just $48,000 by Ohio State in 2022 but will earn $250,000 in 2023, according to the site.
Fitch was a member of the Vanderbilt staff that was let go upon Derek Mason's firing, so it's possible, and even likely, he was getting paid by Vanderbilt through last season. Vanderbilt is a private institution, so contract details for assistant coaches are not public.
And while we have plenty of data on assistant coaching salaries, the pay scale for analysts, quality control coaches and other off-field personnel are not widely known. If you have information on salaries for off-field coaches at your program, you know where to find us.
