Ole Miss running backs coach Marquel Blackwell is taking the same job at Texas A&M, according to multiple reports
Blackwell recently completed his first, and now only, season in Oxford.
That campaign earned him a FootballScoop Running Backs Coach of the Year finalist designation after the Rebels led the SEC in rushing. True freshman Quinshon Judkins led the conference with 1,565 yards and 16 touchdowns, and transfer Zach Evans added 936 yards and nine touchdowns.
On top of SEC bona fides, Blackwell also brings Texas connections with him to College Station. He was Houston's running backs coach, quarterbacks coach, and co-offensive coordinator from 2019-21.
Blackwell also has significant Florida ties. A St. Petersburg native, he started at quarterback at South Florida and coached twice at his alma mater, in addition to three seasons at Sunshine State high schools.
In two seasons at Toledo, Blackwell coached future NFL draft pick Kareem Hunt and MAC leading rusher Terry Swanson.
Blackwell arrives to a Texas A&M running backs room in search of a new bell cow. The Aggies lost 1,100-yard rusher Devon Achane to the NFL draft, leaving rising junior Amari Daniels as the top returning rusher with 200 yards on 36 carries in 2022.
