Thomas Downey High School is 2-0 on this young high school football season, but the California prep program already is a strong contender for special teams play of the year.
In last Friday night's tight, 53-42 win against Elk Grove (California), the Modesto-based Downey Knights uncorked an incredible fake punt.
The video below shows the Knights' punter receive a standard snap, step forward and then heave an underhanded missile some 25-plus yards downfield, into Elk Grove territory.
A Downey player, who appears to be a tight end, leaps amidst traffic and snags the underhanded toss for a first down deep into Elk Grove territory.
