Sources: Stanford poised to bolster personnel staff with hiring of Fresno DPP (Albert Garcia)

As Stanford seeks to regain its footing in the PAC-12 and college football in general, the Cardinal are making a move to bolster the recruiting department of first-year coach Troy Taylor.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Albert Garcia is becoming the assistant director of player personnel for the Cardinal.

Previously, Garcia was on staff at Fresno State as the Bulldogs’ director of player perssonel.

Garcia also has Football Bowls Subdivision from time on staff at Houston as a recruiting analyst.

Taylor & Co. are working to reestablish Stanford throughout California, bolstering the off-the-field staff as the program seeks to return to its winning ways.

Stanford parted with David Shaw after last season’s 3-9 campaigned following up the same 3-9 season from 2021.

After time running offenses at Football Championship Subdivision Eastern Washington and PAC-12 power Utah, Taylor was hired to run the Sacramento State program.

All Taylor did was turn Sacramento State into perennial FCS Playoffs contenders. Taylor won 30 games in three seasons and advanced to the second round or beyond each year in the FCS Playoffs.

Now Taylor is preparing Stanford for its 2023 season, which opens Sept. 1 at Hawaii and then a week later at rival USC on Sept. 9. The Cardinal make their home debut against Taylor’s former team, Sacramento State, Sept. 16.
