Ken Niumatalolo, no stranger to success, is making a significant move in a top off-the-field role as he continues putting his imprint on the San Jose State football program.
Niumatalolo, hired late last month to replace Brent Brennan after Brennan departed for the top post at Arizona, is snagging Garrett Wolfe away from Stanford to take over at San Jose State as assistant athletics director for football operations and chief of staff, sources shared with FootballScoop.
It's a significant move for the San Jose State program as Wolfe had just helped Troy Taylor in his transition a year ago atop the Stanford program.
Additionally, Wolfe had worked under Taylor previously at Sacramento State and had an earlier stint at Stanford which helped Wolfe hone his all-around skill-set; he worked in recruiting operations from 2015-18.
It was during that time that Stanford had some of most significant success under former coach David Shaw; the Cardinal posted nationally acclaimed recruiting classes and also saw on-the-field success that included a PAC-12 title, Rose Bowl victory and additional postseason success.
A University of Texas graduate, Wolfe also has experience on the business side of major athletics -- having worked with renowned agency Octagon, which has been a fixture in the NFL.
Niumatalolo, Navy's all-time winningest head coach, will open his tenure as San Jose State coach Aug. 31 against Sacramento State. The program also is extending the Bill Walsh Legacy series with Stanford, hosting the Cardinal later in the 2024 campaign.
