Sources: Prairie View A&M making coaching change (swac)

Bubba McDowell, a former NFL standout, will not return as head coach at Prairie View A&M, multiple sources tell FootballScoop.

Leonard "Bubba McDowell, who replaced Eric Dooley prior to the 2022 season atop the Prairie View program, formally parted ways with the university this weekend, FootballScoop was told.

After consecutive six-win seasons in 2022-23, the Panthers dipped to an 5-6 overall mark this season and were just 3-4 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Prairie View is in the SWAC's Western Division.

A Georgia native who starred collegiately for the Miami Hurricanes, McDowell logged a seven-year NFL career, primarily with the Houston Oilers, before he transitioned into coaching in 2012.

McDowell has spent the entirety of his collegiate coaching career at Prairie View A&M, serving on staff and ascending the ranks in a variety of roles from 2012-2024.
