A couple weeks into his tenure as a first-time head coach, Mike Willis -- a former well-regarded offensive coordinator -- has charted early key moves for his Marist offensive staff, sources told FootballScoop late Wednesday night.
Willis, the former Ivy League champion player and offensive play-caller at Princeton, is set to tab former Carleton offensive coordinator Bob Davies into the same position at Marist.
Davies (no relation to the former Notre Dame head coach, Bob Davie) continues the trend of young, up-and-coming coaches surging into key positions across college football in this cycle.
The 28-year-old Davies joins Dane Stevens of West Georgia (27) and Eli Johnson (25) at Mississippi Valley State as perhaps the three youngest offensive play-callers at the FCS/FBS levels.
Since Davies arrived at Carleton in charge of the offense, the Knights have reeled off more than 20 wins across the past three seasons. The program did not compete in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and had endured back-to-back losing records in 2018-19.
TJ Weyl is expected to be named Marist's offensive line coach after most recently helping DIII program Johns Hopkins advance into the NCAA DIII Playoffs.
Additionally, Weyl -- a former collegiate lacrosse player at Cornell -- has previous experience at Rutgers.
