Sources: Montana State snagging Nevada assistant for coordinator role (freddie banks)

Montana State is stepping up into the Football Bowls Subdivision to land its next defensive coordinator.

Sources tell FootballScoop on Tuesday that Montana State and new head coach Brent Vigen are set to tap Freddie Banks as the Bobcats' new defensive coordinator.

Most recently, Banks served as the cornerbacks coach for the Wolfpack during the 2020 season, but he's been a fast-riser through the collegiate ranks.

Banks spent the 2018-19 seasons as the cornerbacks coach and assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin.

Prior to that, Banks was both recruiting coordinator and defensive backs coach at Midwestern State.

Banks, an Illinois native who finished his playing career at North Dakota State, has coached prep football as well in Louisiana.

Vigen also is a North Dakota State alumnus.
