Sources: Memphis set to bring home former star player, NFL coach for defensive spot (Reggie Howard)

Reggie Howard starred at Memphis prep spot Kirby High School, became a standout-player for the hometown Memphis Tigers football program and then turned in a seven-year NFL career.

Now, Howard is poised for a homecoming.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Howard is joining Ryan Silverfield's staff to help coach the secondary.

It's been a busy 24 hours for the Tigers, who are set to add another former player -- Lou Esposito -- to their defensive staff. Esposito had been a highly acclaimed defensive coordinator at Western Michigan.

Howard has coached at the prep ranks, including his alma mater, Kirby, and the collegiate ranks as well as at the NFL this past season for the league's Washington Commanders.

Howard worked under former Nebraska All-America selection and ex-NFL star Mike Minter at Campbell, among other stops on is collegiate climb.

Memphis just concluded a resounding 10-win season that culminated with an dominant win against Big 12 program Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl.
