Nick Toth's making a familiar move, and Matt Entz is making a significant one.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Toth is becoming Entz's new defensive coordinator at Fresno State.

The moves is a return to the Bulldogs program for Toth, an assistant with Fresno in five earlier seasons including four as defensive coordinator.

Most recently, Toth has been the safeties coach for Troy Calhoun's Air Force program.

But the veteran Toth also has some major experience under his belt, including stints at Power Conference fixtures Oregon and Texas A&M as well as an earlier turn at UCF.

An Ohio native who played for the Ohio Bobcats, Toth brings with him in his Fresno State return more than two decades's coaching experience.

Entz is assembling his staff following his hiring at Fresno State last week.

A two-time national champion head coach at North Dakota State, Entz is preparing for his first season as an FBS skipper after spending a year as Lincoln Riley's assistant head coach in charge of the defense.

Entz helped the Trojans's defensive unit improve some 50 spots in team defensive rankings in an up-and-down 6-6 campaign for USC, which battled injuries on both sides of the ball and inconsistencies at the quarterback position.

Thursday AM Update> Sources tell FootballScoop contractually this deal did not get finalized; and Toth is planning to remain at Air Force.
