Auburn co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Charles Kelly is expected to be named the next head coach at Jacksonville State, sources tell FootballScoop.
Kelly is a former Jacksonville State assistant, serving as running backs and defensive backs coach at different points during a stint in the mid-1990s. Jacksonville State will be Kelly's first head coaching role after defensive coordinator stints at Nicholls, Florida State and Colorado, plus a national championship as the assistant defensive coordinator at Alabama.
He replaces Rich Rodriguez, who returned to West Virginia after a 27-10 run with two conference championships in three seasons at Jacksonville State.
The Gamecocks compete in the Cure Bowl against MAC champion Ohio on Friday (noon ET, ESPN).
