Sources confirm Iowa on verge adding Tulane assistant (george barnett)

Last week, Iowa targeted Tulane's George Barnett for its vacant offensive line coach.

The Hawkeyes' football program conducted in-depth interviews with Barnett first and then vetted other candidates.

Ultimately, Barnett set the standard and Iowa made its move.

Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes now are on the verge of adding Barnett, hired just less than three months ago by Willie Fritz and new Green Wave offensive coordinator Chip Long, sources confirm to FootballScoop.

Pete Thamel first reported that Barnett was close to finalizing a deal with Iowa.

Tulane opened spring practices this week.

For Barnett, its a quick return to the Midwest. He's an Illinois native who spent seven seasons at Miami (Ohio) and also has logged stops at Grand Valley State and Illinois State.

The Hawkeyes are nearly back to a full staff. Barnett's impending arrival, once formalized, will fill the void left when Tim Polasek became Wyoming's offensive coordinator. Running backs coach Derrick Foster left last month for the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers.
