Back-to-back losing seasons to begin his tenure atop the Cincinnati Bearcats has Scott Satterfield making changes to his staff.
Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Satterfield is parting ways with veteran assistant Kerry Coombs, who's coached cornerbacks and served as the team's special teams coordinator since his return to the Queen City in 2022.
A former Cincinnati-area prep coach who garnered legendary status for his exemplary work in the high school ranks, Coombs also has coached in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans as well as at Ohio State in addition to his multiple stints with the Bearcats.
Just as Luke Fickell has stumbled since his exit from Cincinnati to take over at Wisconsin, Cincinnati also has been slow to gain footing in the Big 12 Conference.
The Bearcats are just a combined 8-16 across the past two seasons, when Satterfield arrived after serving multiple seasons as head coach at Louisville following his decorated run at Appalachian State.
Sources told FootballScoop late Monday night and into Tuesday afternoon that Satterfield already had contacted candidates to gauge their interest in joining the Cincinnati staff, a move that would have signaled a return to the Bearcats program for at least one coach, who declined the offer.
The Bearcats this week also have seen their current roster shift into a state of flux; they currently have almost 20 players, roughly half of them scholarship athletes, in the NCAA Transfer Portal, which opened its current window Monday and runs through Dec. 28.
