Scot Sloan was architect of many of the defenses when Appalachian State rose to prominence at the FCS level.
He's also guided defenses for the Mountaineers in their FBS era and even spent a season as co-defensive coordinator for Jeff Monken's stalwart Army program.
Now, sources tell FootballScoop, Sloan is getting a new task.
Chris Hatcher is expected to hire Sloan as Samford's new defensive coordinator, sources tell FootballScoop.
A former FootballScoop Defensive Coordinator of the Year winner, Sloan, a former Clemson player, started his coaching career at his alma mater, worked at the high school level and has been a college coach for 15 consecutive seasons.
Samford opens its 2025 season at home against West Georgia, hosts The Citadel the following week to jump-start Southern Conference play and then travels for the first of its two money games deep in the heart of Texas: The Bulldogs face Baylor Sept. 13 and Texas A&M Nov. 22.
