Sources: Arkansas adding defensive staffer with Big Ten, PAC-12 experience (jim leonhard)

Ryan Bright, who had a five-year run on staff at Wisconsin before spending the 2023 as a defensive analyst in the PAC-12 at Stanford, is heading to the SEC.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Bright is joining Sam Pittman's Arkansas staff.

Bright has agreed to become a defensive analyst for the Razorbacks, whose defense is headed by aggressive defensive coordinator Travis Williams.

Bright, in particular, has strong ties working with linebackers. It was that position he mostly worked to help coach through his five years with Leonhard and the Badgers.

After time as a graduate-assistant coach at Wisconsins, Bright was elevated to a full-time defensive analyst position that he held until getting the opportunity on Troy Taylor's first-year Stanford Cardinal staff.

Bright played collegiately on the offensive side of the ball, as both tight end and wideout, at noted NCAA DIII program Wisconsin-LaCrosse before he transitioned into his coaching career.

Arkansas, which finished a disappointing 4-8 last fall, opens its 2024 season Thursday, Aug. 29, against FCS program Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Nine days later, the Razorbacks travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma, for a key matchup against Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State, resuming the geographical rivalry. The two teams have met 46 previous times, but not since 1980.
