Former Miami Hurricanes coach Howard Schnellenberger, who guided the program to its first-ever national championship after it toiled in relative mediocrity, has continued to recover from a fall earlier this summer that resulted in injury.
Schnellenberger's wife, Beverlee, updated the status of the legendary Schnellenberger Monday afternoon, with the following message:
“Coach continues to fight and is determined to Win.
“Last weekend he had a procedure needed to help with his recovery efforts. Please continue to keep Coach in your prayers.
“Love, Beverlee and the Schnellenberger family.”
Schnellenberger suffered a “subdural hematoma” when he endured the fall at his Boynton Beach, Florida, home in August. He has faced an arduous recovery since that time.
Schnellenberger is one of the most colorful coaching characters in football history, with coaching stints at both the collegiate and NFL levels. Additionally, the former Louisville, Oklahoma and Florida Atlantic head man was a standout player at the University of Kentucky and also served as offensive coordinator to the legendary Paul 'Bear' Bryant.
