According to multiple reports today, New Orleans and Sean Payton have agreed to a 5-year contract extension.
Jay Glazer was among the first to share the news.
The new deal will keep Payton with the Saints through the 2026 season.
Payton has led the franchise since 2006. The year before he took over they went 3-13, and his impact was felt immediately as he and staff sparked a 7-win turnaround in year one, going 10-6 before losing in the NFC title game to the Bears.
Seven times since '06 Payton has led the team to double-digit wins, including the Super Bowl title and a 13-3 mark in 2009.
Overall, Payton is 119-74 with seven playoff appearances with the Saints and is a beloved figure of New Orleans. He's also helped to develop an impressive number of assistants that have gone on to become head coaches including Doug Marrone (Jaguars), Mike Neu (Ball State), Curtis Johnson (head coach at Tulane from 2012-15), and Dennis Allen (former head coach of the Raiders (2012-14).
