Reports: Gus Malzahn has his defensive coordinator (Featured)

Gus Malzahn was formally introduced as the new head coach at UCF yesterday, and during that presser he made it clear that he plans to call the plays offensively for the rest of his career.

While that means someone may still be brought on to carry the offensive coordinator title, it left a big question for who he had in mind for the defensive coordinator role.

According to multiple reports, it will be someone he has an extensive history with.

Adam Rittenberg was among the first to share that Gus plans to hire Miami's Travis Williams as defensive coordinator. Williams worked at Auburn for Malzahn from 2014-20, including the last two seasons with the co-defensive coordinator title in addition to working with the linebackers.

Rittenberg adds that a deal should be finalized soon.

Williams officially joined Manny Diaz's staff in Miami coaching the linebackers just 15 days ago.

There was some concern in the media about how Malzahn would go about filling out his staff, with UCF being the last FBS job to get filled, but this hire for a key role should quiet many of those concerns.
